The Vow Breakers of Honor Series

The world of Ermhi

A world of Gods, Guardians and the magic fighters who defend it.

To become one of the protectors of society, one must become a Runemaster. Marked by a distinct sigil on the palm of their hand, these runemasters are held in high regard and respect as magic wielders.

Sigils are given by One of the Eight Gods once the rune apprentice has passed their final test. Rune apprentices will gain knowledge of rune circles that can be manipulated in many ways by the masters’ sigil. The Gods have created many cards that carry runes, though only able to use the cards once, they are quick to affect the world around them. Using Rune circles the masters can do artificing: creating lights, lamps, clocks, and even giving people the ability to fly by creating wings. One of the more dangerous magic to control is body magic. With this magic a runemaster can enhance themselves; strengthening their bodies, resisting disease, and extending their lives. However, using this magic comes with a great stigma…

The more experience a Runemaster has, the quicker they can release their cards. To be a true master is to gain power so great that it rivals the power of the Gods. In order to protect the rune cards from falling into undeserving hands the gods hide them away. In sanctuaries they horde great treasures; gems, coins, old books, and most powerful of all rune cards. Gods protect these sanctuaries by creatures called guardians. Guardians are vicious monsters who will kill and die to protect their treasure. Only the ones will iron will, high intelligence, and bravery will be able to defeat these creatures. The Gods have sealed magic into these cards at the beginning of time to help humanity. Only a runemaster who has the patience and knowledge to listen to the cards will know how and when to use them.

Only a runemasters’ sigil can unlock the magic within the cards. The only way to become a Runemaster is to pledge a vow of honor to one of the Eight Gods who bless them. To become a vow breaker is to be cursed by the Gods’ themselves.
